What's ImPORTant in the 'Burg?
We are a truly blessed small city. You have heard me say this at a number of speaking engagements, meetings, and on the streets of our community. We have a casino that generates extra monetary income for not only our city, but the entire Southeastern Indiana region. We have some of the best services offered to our community and we (City Council and I) plan to keep it that way. I would put our council, city boards, city workers, Police, Fire, and EMS up against any city our size. Commitment and dedication is held in high esteem here in Lawrenceburg.
Council just approved our budget for 2017 and I am excited to announce that we project a surplus in 2017 without sacrificing any of our current services to the community and customers. Also in this approved budget, we are continuing to support all of the local entities who are doing some great work in the areas of our youth, our senior community, our veterans, our schools, our neighboring communities, and our merchants. The department heads, Clerk Treasurer's office, and City Council worked together to ensure that we are fiscally responsible. Council and I believe that as long as we are good stewards of our monies, the City will continue to be blessed.
In order for cities our size to endure and stay vitalized, there needs to be an economic stimulus. Our area has lost some very good paying, stable jobs in the last few years. One of the issues that I thought was so important to our community when I got elected was creation of jobs and stimulating our local economy. Once again, a blessing has dropped in the lap of our city and Southeastern Indiana. The announcement of the potential 4th Port of Indiana is creating a buzz in the air that is unlike anything our area since gaming became a reality 20 years ago. The recent AEP Tanner's Creek property will likely house this Port as announced recently. We are working hard to stay ahead of this before it becomes a functioning Port. As we get more details from the State of Indiana and the Ports of Indiana we will certainly keep our community updates. This opportunity will be a catalyst for additional companies to move to the area as well as a generational opportunity for employment for our kids and grandkids.
As always, my door is open and I'm a phone call away. I appreciate the tremendous support of our community.
Best regards,
Kelly Mollaun
Mayor of Lawrenceburg
