Training Opportunity - GISA Conference

You are cordially invited to attend the Inaugural GIS of Alabama (GISA) Conference on April 22-24, 2014 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This conference will give you the opportunity to network with GIS professionals and novices. The GISA Conference will offer informative workshops and sessions highlighting modern trends, new technologies, and best practices in GIS. The GISA Conference special guests will include Brunson White, Secretary of Information Technology for Alabama, and Kenny Miller, President of the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC). Conference attendees will learn about and gain access to GIS tools such as NHD-WET. The Alabama National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) contains detailed digital spatial data about the State’s surface water. Making the Alabama NHD accurate is an ongoing task which plays a vital role in progressing our communities and ultimately our great State. An accurate database of surface water features (streams, rivers, dams, reservoirs, lakes, canals, stream gauges, etc.) and flow-direction networks are vital to government agencies, private companies, utilities, researchers, environmental groups and concerned citizens. The NHD and Alabama NHD-WET GeoEdit Tools Workshop will introduce participants to the NHD-WET GeoEdit Tools and teach participants how to help maintain the database. The USGS will discuss importance to the NHD, how the data is used, and the data availability.
