Site Usage Instructions

Each category in the search section represents a profile that is descriptive of atmospheric data derived from instrument-detected observations. Expanding these categories by clicking on the arrows reveals attributes of the data that can be used to refine your search for data products that meet your precise specifications. The names of variables that satisfy your selections are displayed in the right panel. Clicking on a variable name reveals a list of the current datasets containing that variable. If you would like to compare information from two or more profiles, check the box next to the desired datasets and then click the Compare button.

Explanation of terms

Parameter: A general term (e.g., temperature, humidity) that describes a similar group of variables represented as data measurements derived from instrument observations.

Project: Indicates the scientific mission or data collection program that produces the data.

Spatial Resolution: Specifies the (horizontal) pixel size of satellite images covering the earth surface.

Temporal Resolution: Refers to the duration of time over which the measurement is acquired or averaged.

Vertical Location: Indicates the portion or layer of the earth or earth's atmosphere where the observations were obtained. The vertical location may be a 2-dimensional plane or a 3-dimensional column.

Spectral Range: Referring to the electromagnetic spectrum, this represents either the range of wavelengths of the transmitted pulses of an active sensor, or the range of wavelengths measured by a passive sensor.
