Research & Forecasting

As a regional land use planning agency, ABAG is responsible for describing existing conditions, forecasting changes to the population and economy, and assisting local governments to identify policies that address a changing environment. ABAG's research group prepares forecasts of the region's population and employment every two to four years, conducts original research on trends and policies affecting the region's well-being, maintains comprehensive data sets and mapping capabilities for the nine-county region, and provides extensive analytic support for the region’s planning efforts including Plan Bay Area, the Regional Housing Need Allocation, support for housing elements, and information for the resilience program.
