Governor signs Block measure increasing consumer protections from insurance scams

SACRAMENTO – Proposed consumer protections related to insurance coverage for natural disasters, insurance fees, contract language and other practices were approved today by the governor. 

The proposal, SB 488, by State Senator Marty Block (D-San Diego) would clarify provisions in the public adjuster laws and regulations that arose out of cases and complaints investigated by the California Department of Insurance. 

Block bill to streamline detention for probation violators signed by governor

SACRAMENTO – A proposal allowing probation department to detain adult probation offenders for up to 10 consecutive days without revoking probation or removing offenders from their local communities was approved today by the governor.

The streamlining measure, SB 266, was authored by state Senator Marty Block. 

SB 266 allows probation departments to use “flash incarceration” to hold offenders accountable with less disruption to work, home, or treatment programs. 

Governor approves Block measure granting human trafficking victims chance at a ‘clean slate’

SACRAMENTO—Human trafficking victims arrested or convicted of non-violent crimes while they were trafficked will be able to request that those charges be removed from their records under a bill approved today by the governor and authored by Sen. Marty Block (D-San Diego). 

The measure, SB 823, would help victims rebuild their lives after they escape from the control of their traffickers who may have directed them to commit crimes such as shoplifting or trespass.
