Pismo State Beach

Overview
Six miles of sandy beach are noted for surf-fishing, swimming, hiking and digging for the Pismo clam. The beach is located in the town of Oceano off Highway 1. Phone 805-489-2684.

Camping
Oceano. Three campsites are fully compliant including adjacent water stations. Restroom with showers:. Combination restroom number two in the RV area is generally accessible. Toilets are generally accessible and showers are usable. Assistance may be needed reaching shower controls from bench.
North Beach Campground. Seven campsites are fully compliant including adjacent water stations. Restrooms with showers. All are generally accessible. Routes of travel are accessible and designated accessible parking is often adjacent to the restrooms.

Trails
The Coastal Access Trail is a 1 mile trail that connects the North Beach Campground to the Grand Ave beach access parking area. This trail provides coastal and sand dune viewing opportunities and provides and accessible trail route connection to the butterfly eucalyptus grove. Accessible parking is provided at the Grand Ave beach parking lot and an accessible space located within the North Beach Campground. Accessible restrooms are located at the Grand Ave beach access area.

Exhibits/Programs
Nature Center. The ramp and stairs to the center are generally accessible. Once inside, space is sometimes tight for wheelchair maneuvering. Most of the exhibits are generally accessible. A number of interactive exhibits include a few that use tools that require grasping. Parking. Paved, unmarked spaces near the Ranger Office is usable with a short accessible path to the entry. Restrooms. Accessible restrooms are in the campground.

Butterfly Grove This educational area is compliant with accessible parking and route located within the North Beach Campground area. Monarch butterflys winter in the local eucalyptus trees. Check park for further information.

Fishing
A 300-foot paved "Nature Trail” behind the RV section of the camp passes by a native plant garden and some exhibit panels as it winds to an unmarked fishing spot overlooking the lagoon. The fishing overhang has railings 36” high and some benches. The path is accessible and the fishing site and benches are at least usable.

Definitions & Terms
Accessible
Meets all or most of the current accessibility standards; most visitors with disabilities will not need assistance.
Generally accessible
Meets many current codes and has few barriers, but some visitors with disabilities may need assistance.
Usable
Meets some current codes but has some barriers; many visitors with disabilities may require assistance.
Designated accessible
Describes facilities that have been set aside and usually signed or “designated” accessible because they met accessibility codes when built. Such facilities may vary from newer suggested guidelines in specified ways, and improvements may be planned or ongoing. Minor variations from guidelines are not usually described. This term is often used for parking spaces that are reserved for visitors with disabilities even though there may be minor issues with slope, signage, or size.
