California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP)

CSTP (2010)
The California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) comprise a set of standards for the teaching profession in six interdependent domains of practice. They are intended to provide a common language and a vision of the scope and complexity of the profession by which all teachers can define and develop their practice.
Continuum Of Practice (2010)
The Continuum of Teaching Practice is a companion booklet to the CSTP, describing a teacher's practice across a continuum of expertise. It builds on California's Teaching Performance Expectations learned in the pre-service teaching program and sets forth a description of teaching that respects the diverse ways teachers pursue excellence in teaching and learning. The Continuum of Teaching Practice is a tool for self-reflection, goal setting, and inquiry into practice. It provides common language about teaching and learning and can be used to promote professional growth within an environment of collegial support.

Archived Documents

Formative Assessment System (2010-2016)
Program standards prior to 2015 required a system of formative assessment completed by each program participant. Formative Assessment for California's Teachers (FACT) was the state-developed model used from 2010 through 2016. Today's standards no longer require a system that all participants must complete but instead call for an individualized plan, with the focus of the program being the mentoring relationship. The FACT documents are provided in the CTC archives for use with individual participants who have a particular need.
Skillbuilding for Coaches (2011)
Skillbuilding modules were developed as a companion training for the FACT modules and focused upon the general skills of mentoring and the system requirements at the time. Pertinent modules from the 2011 Skillbuilding training modules may now be accessed and used in various trainings.
