Adoption occurs when an adult assumes, through a formal court proceeding, legal and all other responsibilities for a child, creating a permanent parent-child relationship.
The Alaska Court System has court forms for adoption by a stepparent if the child is not an Indian child, as defined in the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). If the adopting person is not the child’s stepparent you will need to consult with an attorney to file a case.
These forms can be used when the mother, the father and the stepparent all agree to the adoption.
These forms can be used when you are the parent and cannot locate the other parent to get his/her consent to the stepparent adoption and have done a reasonable investigation to find him/her.
