Natl Foundation-To End Senior HungerAccording to a recently released report, as many as 22,000 older Vermonters faced the threat of hunger in 2013. One program in Newport, VT is doing something about it. “Cornucopia”, a program of Umbrella, prepares meals for seniors.

As their website says: “At Cornucopia, we’re growing social and economic justice for women while feeding our community elders fresh, nutritious meals and supporting local farms. Modeled after the successful FRESH Food initiative created by Vermont Works for Women, Cornucopia provides a supportive vocational training program for women in transition. Participants will receive instruction in basic culinary arts and hospitality, while cooking meals for community meal sites and other programs.”
