Our Role
The role of the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) is to oversee the implementation of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA). The MHSOAC is also responsible for developing strategies to overcome stigma. At any time, the MHSOAC may advise the Governor or the Legislature on mental health policy.
Our Mission
Provide vision and leadership, in collaboration with clients, their family members, and underserved communities, to ensure Californians understand mental health is essential to overall health. Hold public mental health systems accountable. Provide oversight for eliminating disparities; promote wellness, recovery and resiliency; and ensure positive outcomes for individuals living with serious mental illness and their families.
Stand and Salute: Our Veterans
Stand and Salute: Our Veterans, a documentary funded by the MHSOAC, will air on PBS in November. The program examines the mental health challenges faced by service members both during and after active duty. The program explores the issues of homelessness, mental health challenges and military sexual trauma. It also looks at resources that are making a difference in veterans’ lives.
This program will air in Sacramento on KVIE on Wednesday, November 9 at 7 pm; Friday, November 11th (Veterans Day) at 4 pm; and Sunday, November 13th at 6 pm and in San Francisco on KRCB on November 7 at 7:30 pm. It will also air in the following cities across the United States: Tampa, Orlando, Portland, Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Memphis, Evansville, Eugene, Bend and Jackson (Tennessee).
