CAP Reaches 100,000 Flying Hours
On September 7, 2016, Civil Air Patrol
reached 100,000 flying hours for Fiscal Year 2016 across its fleet of
aircraft. In Fiscal Year 2015 on this same date CAP had flown 93,256
hours, making this an over 7% increase in CAP’s flying at this time over
last year. Why has CAP flown more this year? CAP is always looking
for new opportunities for its members to fly in support of their
communities across the country, while continuing to do continuing to
prepare for and respond to emergencies
when needed. In comparison to last year, the largest area of growth in
terms of flying hours for missions has been in disaster relief flying;
CAP has flown over 850 more hours in this area than it did in FY15
supporting 46 different disaster missions across the country from
Flooding in South Carolina at the beginning of the fiscal year to
Hurricane Hermine support in Florida over the last week. CAP members
have also flown over 1,000 more hours to train to support these missions
this year. We don’t often know where the next disaster will be, but
CAP works to be prepared all the time. |
