The state government has more rebates available for people who purchase energy-efficient appliances.

The director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Jim Byard, said $150,000 in rebates remains available for people who have purchased appliances with the Energy Star label since April 19, 2010. The department has already given out nearly 34,000 rebates totaling $3.7 million as part of a federal program to encourage people to replace old inefficient appliances.

Byard said the limited amount remaining resulted from some people reserving a rebate and not purchasing an appliance or not mailing in the required documentation.

Rebates are $25 for room air conditioners, $50 for freezers, $75 for dishwashers, $100 for clothes washers, and $150 for standard-size refrigerators.
