Safety & Health Assessment & Research for Prevention (SHARP) — Research for Safe Work

SHARP is an occupational safety and health research program. We partner with business and labor to develop practical solutions to identify and eliminate workplace hazards and reduce the human and economic costs of on-the-job illnesses and injuries.

Created in 1990, SHARP brings together information from injury and illness data, the scientific literature, industry practices, and workplace observations in our occupational health research. Our scientists join with local, state, and national efforts to improve workplace safety and health.

While SHARP is located within the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, our activities are independent of L&I’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the workers’ compensation insurance division.

Promoting Objectivity In Research Policy

The purpose of this policy is to meet Federal regulatory requirements regarding identifying and mitigating possible financial conflicts of interest in PHS funded research (42 CFR Part 50 Subpart F).
