The amazing autumn that dazzled this fall in the Great North Woods has come to an end. The recent rain and wind has brought most of the season’s colorful leaves off the trees. This region is preparing for the transition from fall to winter. Now is a great time to start planning that winter getaway for a snowmobile excursion. Or find a cozy cabin to come and just enjoy the peace and quiet you’ll find here. This will be the last foliage report for the Great North Woods for this year, be sure to check back next fall when foliage season begins again.

SEACOAST region
Friday, October 28, 2016Foliage is moving past peak in the Seacoast Region. The wind and rain over the past several days has taken its toll on the leaves. That said, visitors will still find some emerging color in the Back Channel in Portsmouth. This is a great time to combine a fall drive on country roads with an exploration of old cemeteries, like Point of Graves in Portsmouth’s South End (corner of Mechanic Street) and the Thyng family graveyard on the Newfields-Exeter town line on Oaklands Road. Or consider doing some exploring at Odiorne Point State Park. There are miles of walking trails and this is also where you’ll find Old Odiorne Point Cemetery, one of the oldest burial grounds in the state. WHITE MOUNTAINS Region
