New Membership The Wyoming Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) is always seeking new members. The SILC seeks membership applications from all parts of the state of Wyoming. The SILC is interested in applicants from persons with a variety of disability types. Participation in the council is required at least quarterly at the regular council meetings. Accommodations for disabilities will be made to allow your participation. Accommodations might include: Reimbursement for drivers; real-time transcriptionist; attendant care; large print or braille materials; etc. Participation in council meetings may require travel, and members appointed by the Governor, will be reimbursed at State of Wyoming rates for their travel expenses. Meetings are held via Google Hangouts (web video conference) twice per year. To apply to be on the SILC, you will need to fill out and submit and applications. The SILC application is available in Word and in PDF. You will also need to fill out the Boards and Commissions application located at the Governor's Boards and Commission web page. Our primary purpose, together with the directors of the Centers for Independent Living (CILs), is to jointly develop, and sign the State's Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). Additionally, we monitor, review, and evaluate the implementation of the SPIL. We work with our two CILs concerning different independent living issues that affect the citizens of Wyoming living with significant disabilities. Wyoming Independent Living (WIL) is the CIL that serves the eastern half of the State and Wyoming Services for Independent Living (WSIL) serves the western half of the State. We coordinate activities with other state councils by having mutual liaisons serving on each other's councils. It is our hope that by sharing information, mutual issues which affect Wyoming citizens with disabilities can be addressed. The SILC meets four times a year and all meetings are open to the public. Meeting times and locations vary and are advertised in newspapers statewide. Information is also on the "Upcoming Meetings" page. Finally, we provide periodic reports to the public and Federal government that describe the activities of the SILC.
