VisualVault Form Designer Google Chrome Support

Google Chrome has disabled support for Silverlight and Java applets with update 42 released April 14th. The VisualVault Form Designer requires Silverlight. To enable Silverlight and Java Plugin support in Google Chrome enter: chrome://flags/ in the Chrome address bar. Scroll down to the heading “Enable NPAPI” and click the enable link. Close and re-open Chrome.

We will be transitioning the Form Designer to an HTML5 interface in the future and removing the Silverlight requirement. Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari continue to support the Silverlight plugin.

Limited support for Windows XP effective immediately.

What is changing?

• We are discontinuing support for the SSL version 3 protocol which will prevent Windows XP from making web service calls to our servers unless Internet Explorer version 8 is installed on Windows XP AND the option to use TLS 1.0 is enabled in the Internet Explorer Advanced settings.
• Note: We are discontinuing support for Internet Explorer version 8 soon. The requirement to have Internet Explorer version 8 installed on Windows XP is required because it upgrades the SSL code library used by Windows XP and allows XP to be used for Web service communications with our servers.

Why are we making these changes?

• A critical security flaw in the SSL version 3 protocol requires us to block connections which rely on SSL 3.0. Windows XP without Internet Explorer version 8 does not support TLS 1.0 or higher and will be unable to connect to our servers. The SSL protocol standard was renamed to TLS in 1999 so the versioning sequence is SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2, etc.

What action do I need to take?

• We strongly recommend upgrading to a newer version of Windows. Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP and we will inevitably need to discontinue allowing connections from Windows XP as security protocols change.
• If unable to upgrade to a newer operating system version immediately you can install Internet Explorer version 8 on Windows XP and enable the TLS 1.0 option found in the Internet Explorer advanced settings.

What will happen if I take no action?

• Applications running on Windows XP will no longer be able to connect to our servers using web service connections.
• Products such as V-Scan, Office Add-Ins, Kofax Connectors, or other web service enabled connections will be unable to communicate with our servers.

Support for Internet Explorer 7,8 is ending soon

What is changing?

After May 2015, some features/functionality may no longer work in IE7 and IE8 browsers. Bugs or performance issues that appear only when using IE7 and IE8 will not be investigated or fixed after the cutoff date.

Why are we making these changes?

• Microsoft has announced that they will end support for IE7 and IE8 in January 2015. We will also stop supporting these older browsers in May 2015*. For more information on Microsoft’s plans, please see their website:

• IE7 and IE8 are not HTML5 compatible. IE7 was first released in 2006, and IE8 was released in 2009. These browsers do not support the rich internet apps our customers have come to expect, including HTML5, which is the new industry standard and the technology we are investing in moving forward. It supports mobile devices; doesn’t rely on plug-ins; and provides a faster customer experience.
• IE7 and IE8 are less secure. Trust and security are incredibly important to us. There have been multiple security vulnerabilities discovered in these older browsers over the years.

What action do I need to take?

We are giving you advanced notice to ensure you have as much time as possible to plan for alternative strategies. We strongly recommend that you and your company’s IT administrators upgrade to a supported browser prior to May 2015*.

Supported browsers are: IE9, IE10, IE11, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari

*Currently targeted for May 2015; date subject to change.

What will happen if I take no action?

While users may still be able to access the service from IE7 and IE8 after May 2015, new and/or existing features and functionality may no longer work in these browsers. In addition, bugs or performance issues that appear only when using IE7 and IE8 will not be investigated or fixed after the cutoff date.
