The HRM Information Standards capability standardizes data across the HRM enterprise to support the consistent application of processes and policies throughout the Department’s Components, organizations, and activities.

The development and application of business information management standards increases the transparency of HRM processes and policies across the enterprise and with key external stakeholders, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Labor. P&R; IM is developing HRM Enterprise Standards, in collaboration with the P&R; policy owners, to support equivalent, enterprise-wide interpretation and application of HRM laws, policies, and regulations. Data model development is the analysis of business information needs to create structured representation of data and information. Data models are used for understanding organizations and business areas, as well as information systems strategy and planning. P&R; IM provides HRM functional and technical expertise by engaging data modelers, functional experts, and technology specialists to document and represent information requirements via traditional data modeling, or the creation of enterprise standards or an ontology.
