Mission

The Electromagnetics and Sensors Branch (ESB) is a Research Branch in NASA Langley Research Center's Research and Technology Directorate (RTD). The 26 civil service and 10 onsite contract research staff supports electromagnetics (EM) and sensor research programs in all four agency mission directorates. 80% of the branch research falls under the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (AMRD) in the Aviation Safety and Fundamental Aeronautics Programs where we investigate hazards both internal and external to the aircraft. ESB researchers have expertise, and preserve EM core competencies, in much of the non-ionizing portion of the EM spectrum (λ > 0.3μm). ESB Research also supports non-NASA research activities through reimbursable Space Act Agreements.
