Updating Your Beneficiary Information

If you are an active or inactive member of an MPERA-covered retirement system, you can update your beneficiary information by filling out a new membership card. You have already filled out a membership card when you first started working in your position. Your payroll clerk provided you with this card on your first day of work and sent it to us.

Your membership card is a vital record. The beneficiary information you provided is who will get your benefit in the event something happens to you. Please keep it up to date. To update your beneficiaries, or other information, complete a new card and give it to your payroll clerk.

If you are an active member of an MPERA-covered retirement system, click here to locate and print a Membership/Designation of Beneficiary card. Return it to your payroll clerk.

If you are an inactive member of an MPERA-covered retirement system, you can contact our office for a new card.

Your membership card must be on file with MPERA before the changes will take effect.

Here are just some of the reasons to update your card:

  • Marriage,

  • Divorce,

  • Birth or adoption of a child,

  • Any name changes, and

  • Death of a beneficiary.

We will print the information from your card on your Annual Membership Statement, which is mailed to you each July. Check the statement carefully.

If you are retired member of an MPERA-covered retirement system, you must contact our office to change your beneficiary.
