Lower Lake, CA – Immediately after the Clayton Fire suddenly changed course and swept through Lower Lake devastating the area, (less than a year after the third worst wildfire in our state’s history had caused devastation in South Lake County) the partners that collaborated to raise over $2.5 million for Valley Fire survivors, moved into action again to raise much-needed funds for Clayton Fire survivors.

Company had threatened to end health care contracts at two skilled nursing facilities, forcing patients to negotiate their care individually

Sacramento, CA – Last week, Rockport Healthcare Services announced they were going to keep two of three skilled nursing facilities open – despite three months of dangerous rhetoric that they were going to close Eureka and Seaview Rehabilitation and Wellness Centers.

At the same time, Rockport also announced they were going to cancel Medi-Cal contracts with the two facilities that will remain open forcing individual patients to negotiate health care terms on an individual basis.

Sacramento, CA – With Thanksgiving right around the corner, and as families finalize their plans, we hope folks will mark their calendars and join Senator McGuire for his annual Del Norte County Town Hall the following week.

The annual event will be hosted in Crescent City on the evening of Wednesday, November 30. The interactive Town Hall will be an opportunity to discuss and receive updates on the top issues facing Del Norte County and all Northern California residents.

Sacramento, CA – Years of research, experience and just plain common sense have shown that childhood experiences, both positive and negative, can have a tremendous impact on lifelong health and opportunity – and on the potential to commit or be victimized by violence.

In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified these early experiences, often referred to as Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACEs, as a public health issue.

Sacramento, CA – The State of California’s payment processing system - responsible for paying hundreds of thousands of caregivers each month  –  has experienced significant failures and delays of payment to some of the hardest working, lowest paid employees each month for several years.

Approximately 14,000 In-Home Support Service workers time sheets are rejected by the State of California’s payment system every month resulting in devastating delays of the providers’ monthly paycheck.
