Elementary GLOBE Kit

Elementary GLOBE is designed to introduce students of grades K-4 to the study of Earth System Science (ESS). Elementary GLOBE forms an instructional unit comprised of five modules that address ESS and interrelated subjects including weather, hydrology, phenology, and soils. These kits contain the Teacher’s Implementation Guide, CD-ROM, and more.

Earth System Poster & Activity Guide

The processes comprising the Earth’s environment are interconnected. Understanding the Earth as a system requires a quantitative exploration of the connections among various parts of the system. As students look at the connections between and among environmental data, they will gain a perception that the environment is the result of the interplay among many processes that take place on varying time and spatial scales. The GLOBE Program offers two Earth system posters (with accompanying activities guides):

GLOBE Earth System Posters

The GLOBE Earth System Poster Exploring connections in year 2007 will provide you with activities utilizing NASA satellite imagery to guide your students through a cursory understanding of the various components displayed on the 2007 poster: (Insolation, Surface Temperature, Cloud Fraction, Rainfall, Aerosols, and Biosphere) and identifying connections between these components. This GLOBE Earth System Poster was jointly developed in 2008 by NASA Earth Observations, NOAA Climate Office and the GLOBE Program Office. The accompanying activities guide was developed by the GLOBE Program Office.

The GLOBE Earth System Poster Exploring connections in a typical year will provide you with activities utilizing NASA satellite combined with model imagery to guide your students through a cursory understanding of the various components displayed in the 1987 images: (Solar Energy, Average Temperature, Cloud Cover, Precipitation, Soil Moisture, and Vegetation) and identifying connections between these components. This GLOBE Earth System Poster was developed in 1998 by NOAA’s National Geophysical Data Center. The accompanying activities guide was developed by TERC, an education research and development organization.
