Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study 1 (SPURS-1)

Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study 1 (SPURS-1)

The SPURS-1 field campaign, part of the unified SPURS research effort, took place in 2012-2013. It focused on the high surface salinity, high evaporation region of the subtropical North Atlantic (see figure). The field program finished when the R/V Endeavor pulled into port on October 16, 2013. All moorings and most deployed instruments were recovered, though a few floats and drifters remain and continue to transmit data. Attention shifts to analysis and synthesis of the data that have been collected. Early results were published in a recent issue of Oceanography Magazine. The in situ dataset has been archived at PO.DAAC.

SPURS-2 is set to take place in the eastern tropical Pacific in 2016-2017.
