More from the Corps ...

After "mucking and gutting" 476 homes impacted by August flooding in Louisiana, six CCC crews will be returning to California next week.

The crews have devoted a month to flood cleanup efforts -- more than 17,000 hours of work, working 10-hour days, six days a week.  The corpsmembers were based near Baton Rouge.

The work was funded by FEMA, through the federal Corporation for National and Community Service.

The CCC crews sent to Louisiana are based in Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, Pomona, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo and San Diego.
