Indiana Wing – Civil Air Patrol

The Indiana Wing Civil Air Patrol is the highest echelon of the Civil Air Patrol in Indiana. Based in Terre Haute, the Indiana Wing consists of 29 subordinate squadrons around the state. The 1,200 volunteers of the Civil Air Patrol perform three congressionally assigned missions: Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services.

Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education programs are available to the public and, particularly, schools. This is accomplished through academic programs within the educational systems and through contacts between CAP members and their communities. CAP’s cadet program is unique in that it uses aviation as a cornerstone.  Thousands of young people from 12 years through age 21 are introduced to aviation through CAP’s cadet program.  Many cadets will have the opportunity to solo fly an airplane for the first time through a flight encampment or academy.  While all cadets are offered flights in Civil Air Patrol aircraft called orientation flights.

The Civil Air Patrol has been performing emergency services since 1941. Today, the Indiana Wing continues to provide emergency services: services such as search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian services, Air Force support, and counter drug. Both cadets and adults alike perform emergency services for Indiana. Cadets are a significant influence and assistance during real missions, helping support Incident Command staff and performing ground searches.
