International Walk to School Day a Success!

A huge THANK YOU and a round of applause to all schools that participated in the 20th Celebration of International Walk to School Day! This year 54 Solano Schools walked to school, a bump up from 45 in 2015. We certainly hope everything ran smoothly & we’d love to hear how IW2SD turned out at your school. If there are any photos that are cleared with your school to make public, feel free to share on our Facebook page. Thanks again for the work you do and for encouraging your students to keep active! Take a look at the article of IW2SD in The Reporter here

Safe Routes to School at the Tomato Festival

The Solano Safe Routes to School program had a great time greeting parents and kids at our booth at the Fairfield Tomato Festival last weekend, August 20 and 21, 2016. We provided information about our free programs available to schools and asked parents how their children get to and from school (many by walking and biking!).  Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

Vacaville Mayor Joins the Walking School Bus

The Callison Elementary School Walking School Bus had a special guest walk with them on the first day of school, August 18. Vacaville Mayor, Len Augustine, surprised the students, when he met them at Nelson Park and joined them and the Walking School Bus leaders as they walked the route down Marshall Road to the school located on Vanden Road. The route is one of three Walking School Bus routes available to students. For more information about Walking School Buses, call the SR2S program at 399-3222.

Thanks to the 28 schools that submitted Student Travel Surveys

Despite a busy end of the school year, 28 Solano County schools participated in the 2016 Spring Travel Survey. The simple hand tally survey evaluates how students get to and from school. The survey results are extremely important to help our program be competitive for grant funding.
