Los Alamos National Laboratory

Mission

Based on integrity, teamwork, and technical expertise, the Technical Services Group will provide technical safety analyses for the design and operation of nuclear and nonnuclear facilities and activities.

Teams

Analysis Services

This team provides guidance to LANL Safety Analysis and Safety Basis personnel for performing safety-analysis calculations.

CMRR

The CMRR project team has utilized a risk management approach to integrate nuclear safety early in project design. The project team relies on front-end planning to establish safety expectations, develops strategies to implement expectations, and ensures performance against the expectations during design and safety basis reviews. The CMRR Environmental Impact Statement and the Preliminary Hazard Analysis addressed nuclear safety project related issues and concerns and were used to reduce identified potential risk early.

Program

This team assists in the development and oversight of the institutional Safety Basis Program. The Program Team serves as the Office of Institutional Coordination (OIC) for safety-basis-related procedures and Institutional Appendix F Performance Measures.

Nonnuclear

The Nonnuclear Team assists in development and oversight of the institutional Safety Basis Program. This includes identification of technical requirements, along with resources needed to prepare or perform independent quality reviews. The organization serves as the Office of Institutional Coordination (OIC) for safety-basis-related procedures and Institutional Appendix F Performance Measures.

Safety Analysis Training

LANL SB-TS provides a comprehensive training program that meets the needs of personnel with safety basis responsibilities at NNSA/DOE nuclear and high-hazard facilities. The training program facilitates uniformity in technical qualifications of safety basis professionals throughout the DOE complex.

USQ Process

This Safety Basis team provides quick and easy access to pertinent information and forms that Facility Operations Directors (FODs) and USQ Qualified Evaluators (QEVs) need.
