Using a new 3 dimensional visualization tool developed here at CDS,
scientists are able to better examine the patterns of Heat Waves. This
science story spotlights UV-CDAT (Ultrascale Visualization Climate Data
Analysis Tool) and explores how climatologist's are utilizing it to
investigate the space and time extent of these potentially catastrophic
weather events.
NASA Utilizes Data Agreement with the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA)
NASA scientists now have the benefit of using high-resolution data from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) license agreement with DigitalGlobe Satellite Communications Service in accessing data for
scientific research. The Climate Model Data Services is working with partner organizations, such as the Polar
Geospatial Center (PGC) and DigitalGlobe, to transfer high resolution satellite data to the Advanced Data
Analytics PlaTform (ADAPT) computer system.

CDS's Data Visualization 3D (DV3D) - Version 2.0 now available
CDS's DV3D package, part of PCMDI's UV-CDAT, is a user-friendly tool for
simplifying advanced climate data 3D visualization and analysis. DV3D
offers scientists insightful dataset views, including volume slice and
render, Hovmoller volume slice and render, isosurface and vector field
plots. Seamless integration with UVCDAT’s Climate Data Management System
and other analysis tools addresses climate dataset complexity.
CREATE-IP has extended the data holding to include the winter of 2015-2016 in order to facilitate research related to the current El Nino. Data products include both monthly and 6-hourly data for four reanalyses. Differences between the 2005-2016 surface temperature anomaly and that in 1997-1998 suggest conditions in the Western States were considerably different during the two events. Looking in detail at different reanalyses may provide the clues necessary to improve prediction of future events. Data will soon be available through ESGF but can currently be subsetted and downloaded from our TDS server or visualized through CREATE-V.
