The State of Alaska implemented hiring restrictions effective January 5, 2016.

With the exception of the University of Alaska and the Alaska Railroad, the hiring restriction continues and is extended to all executive branch entities. For more information about what the hiring restrictions mean please review the recent MEMO from the Office of the Governor.

This is the main area to search for jobs with the State of Alaska. These jobs are mostly open to Alaska Residents only. In some extenuating circumstances a job might be opened up to non-Alaska Residents. Please pay careful attention to the “Position Open To” field to see if a job is for “Alaska Residents Only” or “All Applicants”.

Please review the State of Alaska residency requirements to see if you would be considered an Alaska Resident for your job search.

for State Employees

Search for Jobs Open to State Employees

Jobs posted here are only open to current State of Alaska Employees or those who have rehire rights. Each position might have stricter qualifications for applying so please pay careful attention to the "Position Open To" field.

Department Employee Recruitments: Applicants must currently work in the recruiting department and hold permanent employment status. Permanent employment status is defined as holding permanent status in ANY job class in the current period of employment with no break in service (separation from State of Alaska employment) since the permanent status was earned.

All State Employee Recruitments: Applicants must currently hold permanent employment status in the classified service as defined in Alaska Statute 39.25.100. Permanent employment status is defined as holding permanent status in ANY job class in the current period of employment with no break in service (separation from State of Alaska employment) since the permanent status was earned.

for Students

The State of Alaska Internship Program introduces and engages students to the diverse aspects of public sector employment. The program is designed to complement academic study with "hands-on" experience and help develop invaluable job readiness skills with the objective that the student will aspire to return to State employment upon completion of his/her education.

Search for Jobs Open to Students

To qualify for an Internship you:

  1. must be a participant in an academic program with a grade-point average of 2.0 or higher**;
  2. must be an Alaska Resident, or attending an Alaska University or College; and
  3. must meet the minimum qualifications for the job class.
**Some internships require that an applicant be in a specific field of study.

Exception: Alaska Department of Fish and Game science related internships are open to non-Alaskan residents, although preference will be given to Alaskan residents.
