UPDATE (as of June 30, 2016): 2016 Renewal Information

Renewal packets are currently being reviewed in the order received.  When a renewal packet is received the payment is processed first for security reasons and for confirmation of receipt.  Once a renewal packet is reviewed, licensees will be notified via email of any additional issues needing resolution before the renewal can be approved.  Once the renewal packet is approved, licensees will receive their confirmation in the mail in about 1-2 weeks.   However, the change of their expiration date will be updated on the website within 1-2 business days after the approval.  We encourage licensees, employers, and third parties to check on their license status on our website.  Please check the License Verification page.  The status page will also have an Adobe PDF letter of verification that may used as proof of their renewal while they await their materials in the mail.

If a packet was received by the June 20th deadline, but has not been reviewed or there is an issue found with the renewal that has not been resolved by June 30th, the licensees expiration date will be updated to July 31, 2016 on June 30th (by 7:00 pm EST) to reflect the additional time needed to complete the renewal process.

A LICENSEE IS CONSIDERED TO BE ACTIVE AND ABLE TO PRACTICE WHILE THEIR RENEWAL PACKET IS BEING PROCESSED BY THE BOARD.  PAYMENTS RECEIVED AND POSTED BY THE BOARD ARE CONSIDERED TO BE CONFIRMATION THAT THE BOARD HAS RECEIVED THE PACKET.

If you are late in renewing your license…

Packets received after June 30th must include the renewal fee of $200 and a late fee of $75.  Late renewals packets must also include 20 additional hours of continuing education.  Please visit our License Renewal page for updated 2016 renewal guidelines.  To renew your license, please visit the Forms page.  Scroll down to section 08 License Renewal to obtain the forms and instructions for renewal. You have one year from the date of expiration to renew your license.  Licensees who do not renew during that time will need to reapply for licensure and will be subject to the rules in place at that time.

We appreciate your patience during this busy time!

July Board Meeting Application Review Update
All applications received for by the June 3, 2016 deadline will be reviewed for the July 21 – 22, 2016 NCBLPC Board meeting.  We currently have a high volume of applications and we are working diligently to have them processed for the meeting.  Once the application review process has started, applicants will receive an email requesting any additional information that may be needed to complete the application for Board review and licensure. All documentation is reviewed in the order it was received.

Senate Bill 279
On October 1, 2015, Senate Bill 279 became effective, which amends the Licensed Professional Counselors Act to modify educational qualifications for the practice of counseling. Under the changes there will be different educational requirements depending on when a person’s application is received by the Board. To view the Bill click here.

Please note, this change will not impact the educational qualifications for those who are currently licensed. Current licensees will only have to meet the new requirements if they decide to reapply after being lapsed for at least two years or after a loss of licensure due to a disciplinary action.

New Quarterly Report Form

The Board has updated the Quarterly Supervision Report form to ensure that supervision received by LPCAs is in compliance with the requirements defined in  21 NCAC 53 .0208 .  Reports should still be submitted no later than the end of the month after the quarter ends.  However, the Board no longer requires the submission of hours on Quarterly Supervision Reports.  All hours are to be reported to the Board on Final Supervision reports. Quarterly Supervision Reports must either be mailed with the Supervisor’s signature across the flap of the sealed envelope OR emailed directly from the Supervisor’s email address on file.

If you have already sent in a report for the 3rd quarter (July 1- October 30, 2015), it will still be accepted.  However, the actual hours will not be added to your status report. Going forward reports must be filed on the current form.

As a reminder, the Supervisor in collaboration with the Supervisee must maintain a log of clinical supervision hours.  The Supervisor must maintain copies of these logs for a minimum of seven (7) years beyond termination or completion of supervision and must provide copies to the Board for inspection upon request.  For additional information about the supervision, please visit section 02 of the Forms page.  There you will find supervision summary information, a sample supervision log, and supervision reporting forms.
