Welcome to the Navy DSRC

The Navy DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (Navy DSRC) is a premier provider of high performance computing services and support to the United States Department of Defense scientists and engineers. It is one of five supercomputing centers established under the auspices of the Department of Defense (DoD) High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). The Navy DSRC leverages high performance computers and a wealth of knowledge to greatly improve the computational research environment for DoD researchers. The center also provides leadership for HPCMP-wide functions including remote petascale data storage, enterprise systems monitoring, and remote system and database administration.

Success Stories

  • A Next-generation Operational Global Ocean Nowcast/Forecast System - 9/9/13

Data visualization of sea surface height from 1/12° global HYCOM/NCODA for the Kuroshio on 1 July 2007.

The new Global Ocean Forecast System (GOFS) version 3.0 was declared an operational product at the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) on 20 March 2013. It can accurately depict (nowcast) and predict (forecast) the oceanic "weather," thus providing improved environmental awareness to the warfighter. Read More...

  • Bioluminescence Potential Modeling and Forecasting - 9/9/13

Data visualization of the sum of absorption and backscattering averaged from the depth of BL potential stimulation (5m) to the surface

There is a long documented history of brilliant displays of bioluminescence in the wakes of ships, breaking waves, around the bodies of rapidly moving fish and mammals, and from simple agitation of the water with one's hand or a stick. Predictions of the location, timing and intensity of bioluminescence (BL) potential and intensity of bioluminescence water leaving radiance (BLw) are critical for numerous naval operations.
