About the Program

The Alternatives to Abortion Program was established in 2007 through Section 188.325 RSMo. The program is designed to assist women in carrying their unborn child to term instead of having an abortion, and to assist them in caring for their child or placing their child for adoption. Services are available during pregnancy and for one year following birth.

Goals of the Program

Reduce abortions and improve pregnancy outcomes by helping women practice sound health-related behaviors, including decreasing the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs and by improving their nutrition. Improve child health and development by helping parents provide more responsible and competent care for their children. Improve families’ economic self-sufficiency by helping parents develop a vision for their own future, continue their education and find a job.

Where to Go for Help

When looking for a resource or provider in your area, any of the agencies that are listed for the county you are searching can be contacted. Even though the city that may appear for a provider may be in another part of the state, the agency will be able to put you in contact with a resource in your area.

Eligibility

The Alternatives to Abortion Program is available to women who are Missouri residents* and who:

  • Are at or below 200 percent of federal poverty level based on the client or family income as determined by the exemption status on the previous or current year Federal income tax filing annually; and

*A Missouri resident is defined as a person who has fixed their home/dwelling in Missouri, not for any special or temporary purpose, but with a present intention of remaining in Missouri permanently or for an indefinite period of time.

Cost

Services are provided at no cost to participants meeting the eligibility requirements outlined in the section above.
