Bostwick honors John Bostwick, a state representative, who, more than any other individual, helped develop and bring prosperity to this community. Not only did Bostwick build a cotton gin, he also led efforts to settle a railroad that would run from Bostwick to Apalachee and later wind its way to Monroe.

In the 1920s, when cotton was king, Bostwick thrived. It contained two cotton gins, a cotton seed oil mill, a depot and train station, a bank, a hotel, a dry cleaning business, three doctors, a blacksmith shop,a post office, and three businesses with gas pumps.

Today, Bostwick maintains one of the few operational cotton gins in Georgia. And, Bostwick Supply Company, a general mercantile store, is still doing business today just as it did when the town first began.
