The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was the nation’s first bistate agency. The governor of each state appoints six members of the agency’s Board of Commissioners, subject to state senate approval. Commissioners serve as public officials without pay for overlapping six-year terms.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a financially self-supporting public agency that relies almost entirely on revenues generated by facility users, tolls, fees and rents. We receive no tax revenue from NY, NJ or NYC.

The Board of Commissioners meet monthly, in public, to act on agency business. Pursuant to the Port Authority’s By-laws, specific information is publicly reported concerning the conduct of its business, including disclosure of actions taken by the Commissioners, reports on business transactions, changes to rules and regulations, and a schedule for upcoming Board Meetings.

The Board of Commissioners adopted Public Records Access and Access to Personal Information Policies which can be accessed below. Under the policies, the Port Authority makes available all fulfilled Public Records requests on its website. The policy also contains procedures for submitting a public records access request as well as other pertinent information.

Our initiatives include posting an advance listing of action items being considered at the agency’s Board Meetings, webcasting all public meetings, reports on business transactions, and providing for public comment at the public Board Meetings.
