Inmate Information
Reception and orientation
Dodge Correctional Institution (male) and Taycheedah Correctional Institution (female) are the primary intake sites within adult institutions. During the intake processes, inmates will be oriented about numerous matters such as:
- Security expectations which includes institution rules, movement, property regulations, and other safety issues
- Daily living expectations such as hygiene, meals, housekeeping, mail, phone calls, and visiting
- Business matters including inmate accounts, restitution and other legal obligations, canteen, legal loans, and money transactions
A primary function of intake is Assessment and Evaluation. Inmates will be evaluated by Health Services, Psychological Services and Classification. This process takes approximately eight weeks. At the conclusion, an Initial Classification staffing is conducted. This staffing will determine inmate custody, program assignments and recommended site placement. Transfer out of the reception site will occur after the staffing decision is received, and as soon as space is available at the receiving site.
Options and opportunities while incarcerated
When the offender arrives at their main facility, they will be provided with the information necessary for successful reentry into the community when the time comes.

Canteen Preparing for release
The pre-release curriculum was designed to enhance the ability of inmates to succeed in their community reintegration process as well as to improve inmates’ awareness and sense of obligation to themselves, their loved ones and their community.
The pre-release curriculum has been divided into 10 modules: wellness, education, employment, family support, financial literacy, health, housing, personal development, transportation, and transitional prep. The information presented in each of these modules was designed to address some of the common challenges and responsibilities that that offenders are likely to encounter as they re-enter their community. Each inmate is issued a reentry portfolio to track his or her progress in meeting the individual competencies in each of the modules and to organize other important documents that are needed for transition into the community.
The overall goal of the pre-release curriculum is to assist inmates in their preparation of returning to their community by:
- Providing individualized release planning with an assigned social worker, in connection with an assigned DCC probation & parole agent
- Encouraging and establishing positive contact with family and/or other support systems, as necessary to initiate, maintain, and finalize release planning
- Establishing appropriate residency and treatment plans for release, as necessary
- Offering options for post-release employment and/or educational opportunities
- Providing referrals and resources for assistance throughout the pre-release process
- Encouraging participants to take personal responsibility for his/her actions now and in the future
