N.C. Communicable Disease Reports
All individually identifying information reported to the Division of Public Health is confidential and protected by law. Surveillance information is shared routinely and voluntarily with the CDC and public health partners and practitioners throughout the state in a manner compliant with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). North Carolina is committed to the meaningful use of electronic disease surveillance data, including contributing to the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) and the North Carolina Epidemiology Section's EpiNotes quarterly newsletter.
The legal rules for the release of communicable disease records for bona fide research purposes are covered by 10A NCAC 41A .0104 . For information on available health statistics or to inquire about additional reports and data, contact us.
Communicable Diseases
These reports include most diseases reportable by law in North Carolina. A few diseases with low incidence are not listed in the current version of the reports but will be included in revised reports by 9/30/2013. See North Carolina administrative code 10A NCAC 41A .0101 for the current list of reportable diseases.

Spay/Neuter Program for Companion Animals
Starting with 2011 data, spay/neuter program statistics will be administered by the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS), Archival program statistics (2001-2010), including yearly animal shelter reporting data by city/county and city/county local assistance reimbursements, are available from the Communicable Disease Branch Veterinary Public Health program by request.
