Guyton dates to 1792, though its boom came throughout the 1830s, when wealthy Savannah residents poured into the area to establish summer homes. Later, during the Civil War, the then prosperous Guyton would fall victim to Union General William Tecumsah Sherman and his troops' March to the Sea.
