Originally named Brothersville to honor three of its initial sibling settlers, Hephzibah incorporated in 1970. The town's name is biblical in origin and can be found in the book of Second Kings.
Once Augusta consolidated in 1996, Hephzibah found itself engulfed by the larger city.
