Municipal Judge CLE Reporting and Supreme Court Rule 18
In accordance with Missouri Supreme Court Rule 18 municipal judges that are also lawyers (except Associate Circuit Judges, who do not fall within the ambit of the Rule) must earn and report five (5) hours of continuing legal education (CLE) annually. Non-Lawyer judges must earn and report fifteen (15) hours of continuing legal education annually. Additionally, both classifications of judges must earn and report at least two (2) credit hours of accredited programs and activities devoted exclusively to judicial ethics or professionalism to be completed on or before June 30, 2012, and every year thereafter. Within 12 months after beginning service as a municipal judge, the judge shall complete a course of orientation training accredited by the Municipal Judge Education Committee. The course shall be repeated if the judge ceases being a judge for at least 24 months before again becoming a judge. A non-lawyer municipal judge is not required to complete or report any credit hours in excess of those awarded for such orientation training in the reporting year in which the judge initially begins service.
