Some history regarding the Inaugural Ball and Idaho's Capitol:
The Inaugural Ball was first held in the newly built Capitol Building in 1913, when John M. Haines was inaugurated as Idaho's tenth governor. According to a newspaper report of the time, the traditional Grand March "wound up and over the spacious staircases, like a many colored serpent of varied hues." Work began on the Capitol's central section and the dome in 1905 and was completed in 1912. Work on the east and west wings began in 1919 and lasted a year. The sandstone on the exterior came from the nearby Table Rock quarry, and the four types of marble used on the interior came from Georgia, Vermont, Alaska and Italy. This Inaugural Ball continues Idaho's long tradition of honoring state executive officers and members of the Idaho Legislature.
