A Unique Place from All Vantage Points
The Kickapoo Valley Reserve is an 8,600 acre tract of public land located between the villages of La Farge and Ontario in southwestern Wisconsin. Its history, resources, administration, and recreational diversity make it unique - a place like no other.

We invite you to come see for yourself the many wonders of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.  Here sandstone outcroppings tower over the Kickapoo River as you paddle its quiet waters, and native plants and animals abound in all seasons.  Whether you'd like to join us for a scheduled interpretive hike, adventure into the back country on your own, or simply stop and admire the beauty, the Kickapoo Valley Reserve welcomes you!

HighlightsHIGHLIGHTS

VISITOR CENTER HOURS:  8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday; Closed Sundays and Holidays.

HUNTING:  The KVR is open to public hunting.  Hunters please be aware of your target and beyond; do not shoot near trails or campsites; do not trespass on to private land.  New this year, the KVR is cooperating with the DNR to provide a CWD test site.  The kiosk is located on Cut-Off Road (north of Rockton Bridge) with instructions to provide a sample; there is also a dumpster provided by the Vernon County Solid Waste Department for proper disposal of the deer carcass.  Hunting etiquette and care of the Reserve helps the traditions continue on public lands.  Be safe and leave no trace of your visit.

TRAILS:  Equestrian and Bike trails are closed for the season. Hiking is allowed year-round but use caution and please let us know of problem spots.  Check this site regularly for ski and snowshoe condition reports throughout the winter season.

RIVER:  A new logjam has been reported below Bridge 9 and there are at least four known blockages between Bridges 15 & 20 with difficult portages.
