The Native Village of Kotzebue will take nominations at the Annual Meeting on April 14, 2015
Offices/Positions for Election: three (3) tribal council member seats / 2 regular tribal council seats and 1 youth council seat. Each seat will be a three-year term from 2015 - 2018.
Qualifications to hold a Native Village of Kotzebue seat are:
- The candidate shall be a tribal citizen and
a. Regular tribal council seat: Eighteen (18) years old or older.
b. Youth tribal council seat: Between the ages of 18-29 at the time of election.
- The candidate shall not have been convicted of a felony within the last five (5) years.
- Shall have been a resident of Kotzebue for at least 60 days prior (or at least by February 14, 2015) to the election, must be a resident living in Kotzebue, and have at least ten (10) cumulative years of Tribal membership in the Native Village of Kotzebue
- An employee of the Tribe shall not be eligible to hold a seat on the Tribal Council.
If possible, nominees are encouraged to give their names in advance to Ukallaysaaq, Executive Director, to verify eligibility.
Qualified voters are tribal citizens on the Enrollment List as prepared by the Tribal Enrollment Director and should be at least eighteen (18) years old by March 15, 2015. Citizens are allowed one vote for each seat.
