Fort Bragg Facts

- Fort Bragg is Home of the Airborne and Special Operations. When America needs her armed forces, the first phone call is to Fort Bragg.


- Originally known as Camp Bragg, Fort Bragg was founded in 1918 as an artillery training post.


- The largest U.S. military installation in terms of population. Fort Bragg has approximately 53,700 troops and another 14,000 civilians who work on post.


- The post supports a population of roughly 260,000, including military Families, contractors, retirees and others.

- Fort Bragg covers approximately 500 sq. miles, which is nearly 163,000 acres. 146,000 of those acres are dedicated training lands.

Gate Closures
Butner Access Control Point is closed until December 2016.

Road Closures
- Reilly Rd. from Manchester to Armistead.
- Knox St. from Gruber to Honeycutt.
- Hurst from Malvesti to Lewis.
- Manchester from Normandy DZ to Sicily DZ and Sicily DZ to Lamont.
Note: All closed roads are closed to joggers as well, especially Hurst Dr. The road will open when repairs are complete.

Facility Closure
Fort Bragg Army Wellness Center will be temporarily closing their Galvin Hall location beginning Monday, Nov. 14, until further notice.
