The Woman's Right to Know Act, passed by the General Assembly in 2005, is legislation that updates Georgia's abortion requirements by ensuring that women are given the opportunity to make an informed decision about the procedure.
“Women have a right to learn about all of the options available to them in the event of an unwanted pregnancy,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “The Woman's Right to Know Act is a common sense approach to a sensitive issue and it reflects the mainstream values that Georgians share.”
The Act requires that women who seek abortions be fully informed about relevant issues such as:
- Abortion methods and possible medical risks
- Possible detrimental psychological effects
- Medical risks of carrying a pregnancy to term
- Probable gestational age of the fetus at the time of the procedure
- The Father's responsibility
- Information on free ultrasounds
