David Harder

Research Engineer I, Insertion Devices, Accelerator Systems Division

After earning his BS degree in Physics from Washington and Jefferson College, Dave has had a number of interesting jobs prior to joining BNL in 1987; teaching high school level physics and chemistry and joining the U.S. Peace Corps where he taught secondary school in Kitui, Kenya.

Dave joined the Laboratory as a Physics Associate II working on a combination of technical and engineering work such as neutral particle beam sensing and ultraviolet Raman spectroscopy of chemical agents. In 1999, Dave joined the NSLS as a Research Engineer II and was responsible for engineering work in support of both the Magnetic Measurements Lab and the Source Development Lab.

At NSLS-II, Dave will report to Toshi Tanabe and will have responsibility for designing and testing the equipment for the insertion device magnetic measurement facility and the electrical system/controls interface for all NSLS-II insertion devices using coils and Hall probes, motor controls, DAQ from various sensors and related programming. In addition, he will provide technical expertise in the R&D, design, installation, and commissioning of all NSLS-II insertion devices.
