After trading goods for land with the Calamit Indian Village, settlers established the local community around 1784. Nearly 100 years later, the town had only a few homes around a store and a post office owned by Mr. and Mrs. M. J. C. Statham. The town began its significant development after the railroad grew the population in the 1890s.
Today, Statham is a thriving community that promises Southern charm, hospitality and a convenient ride to metro Atlanta. It offers parks and community events, such as a Christmas parade, community yard sales and September's Sunflower Festival.
