    U.S. Embassy Dili and UNTL co-launch UmaAmerika

    On Wednesday, November 16, Ambassador Karen Stanton joined Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) Rector Francisco Miguel Martins to inaugurate Timor-Leste’s first American Space, ‘UmaAmerika’ at the main campus of UNTL in Dili. UmaAmerika is a center devoted to sharing American culture, fostering innovation and open exchange of information between the U.S. and Timor-Leste.

    On November 3rd, U.S. Ambassador Karen Stanton joined Japan Ambassador Yeiji Yamamoto, Australia Deputy Head of Mission Angela Robinson and F-FDTL Deputy Commander Filmeno Paixao at the closing ceremony of Harii Hamutuk 2016. F-FDTL Deputy Commander Paixao praised Exercise Harii Hamutuk 2016’s efforts to enhance F-FDTL’s engineering unit skills.

    U.S. Embassy organizes KLABIS forum

    U.S. Embassy organizes KLABIS forum for local media on conflict and dispute-sensitive reporting. On October 26th, U.S. Embassy Dili hosted the quarterly ‘KLABIS’ media forum at the Embassy, focusing on best practices in reporting about conflict and disputes within local communities. Guest speaker Christopher W. Moore, Ph.D., who has worked as a professional mediator in nearly 50 countries, discussed with 12 local and international journalists from Timorese news outlets and the LUSA news agency about current best practices in reporting on conflicts, disputes and other tense situations, including a number of case studies from other societies recovering from conflict around the world.

    Harii Hamutuk 2016

    Harii Hamutuk 2016. Brigadier General Stephen Curda, Commanding General of the 9th Mission Support Command in Fort Shafter, Hawaii visited Timor-Leste from October 23rd to 25th in order to visit U.S., Australian, Japanese and F-FDTL forces participating in Exercise Harii Hamutuk 2016. Curda directly observed multilateral military security cooperation in Timor-Leste that aims to enhance military engineering interoperability, exchange skills and knowledge between the four countries.

    Gleno Community Health Engagement

    In partnership with local authorities in Gleno, Municipality of Ermera, the Ministry of Health & F-FDTL, multinational staff from Pacific Partnership will join Timorese health workers to provide free health education and health services to the people of the region, on a first come, first serve basis from June 13-17 from 0930-1500 every day at the Gleno Community Health Center.

    The U.S. Department of Justice Provides Training for Timorese Judges

    The U.S. Department of Justice is supporting four Timorese judges (from courts in Dili, Baucau, Covalima and Oecusse) to attend a 3 day workshop in Bali from April 12th – April 14th with their Indonesian counterparts focused on Judicial Ethics, Decision-Making, And Best Practices for Judicial Teaching.
