CERDEC’s Software Engineering Directorate provides production software support and post-deployment software support for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems, ensuring capability throughout the lifecycle of the system as the environment and threats evolve.

In today’s Army, Soldiers rely heavily on software-dependent technologies and communications tools to accomplish their missions.

CERDEC’s Software Engineering Directorate develops and supports the fielding and sustaining of systems and software products, services and technologies that enhance America’s Warfighting capabilities. SED helps ensure America’s Soldiers and allies are equipped to defend the homeland and own the decisive edge throughout the operational environment.

SED supports the Communications-Electronics Command, Program Executive Offices and Program Managers with software acquisition services such as independent verification and validation (IV&V), security engineering, information assurance, cloud computing, data engineering, license management, network management, enterprise architecture, software quality assessments, system and software testing, and continual process improvement through best practices such as Capability Maturity Model Integration and Lean Six Sigma.

CERDEC’s Software Engineering Directorate expedites the transition of technology to the Soldier by providing the full breadth of system and software acquisition and sustainment support.

SED provides software engineering acquisition support to tactical and strategic systems from early in the research and development phase through production and post-production software engineering.

SED supports deployed and fielded systems in the domains of:

  • Intelligence, electronic warfare and sensors
  • Avionics
  • Tactical switching and data distribution
  • Satellite communications
  • Communications network management
  • Cybersecurity and data standards
  • Fire support
  • Army mission command

SED develops, adopts and implements efforts of the Army’s Net-Centric Data evolution and ensures these efforts support the Army’s service-oriented architecture approach.

SED ensures the migration of current force system messaging standards align and interoperate with Net-Centric Data Strategy standards and are in accordance with the Army’s service-oriented architecture.

SED provides security certification and accreditation, information assurance, malicious code analysis, and software security engineering services in support to Program Executive Offices, Program Managers, Life Cycle Management Commands and other Defense Department organizations.
