Governor Walker has proclaimed November as Adoption Month to recognize and honor those outstanding adoptive parents who have given children a permanent family to call their own. The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families will present awards to six special adoptive families, with the 2016 Governor’s Outstanding Adoptive Parent Award, during a ceremony at the State Capitol on November 22nd.
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is targeting the issue of poverty in Wisconsin’s most economically disadvantaged areas with an exciting new subsidized work program. The Transitional Jobs (TJ) program is a public/private partnership that teams local businesses looking for a low-risk way to expand their workforce with eligible unemployed or underemployed job-seekers in need of training and mentorship. The program has a specific focus of helping people with high-barriers gain the skills needed to transition into long-term, family sustaining jobs.
A state-level-system Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force has been established to develop a cross-system, comprehensive, trauma-informed service and response system in Wisconsin for minors who are victims or at-risk of being victims of sex-trafficking. Co-chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Wisconsin Attorney General, the Human Trafficking Taskforce will be composed of a broad range of stakeholders located across the state committed to serving the victims of this horrific crime.
