Governor Chafee's vision for long-term, sustainable economic expansion is to build upon our state's assets by developing and marketing the State's Growth Centers for strategic expansion and investment. These are places and industries where Rhode Island already has a strong competitive advantage with our university or corporate centers of excellence, or supported by a physical infrastructure of available land, building, utility, telecommunications and transportation access.
Financial Services
Financial Services, where leading financial institutions such as Amica Insurance, Citizens Bank, Fidelity and FM Global have corporate campuses within access to convenient commuting highways, regional talent pool, and the country's best telecommunications infrastructure.
Knowledge Providence
Knowledge Providence, where the redevelopment of prime property -- made available from the I-195 highway relocation - is at the heart of 600 dynamic acres where innovation thrives. This is the cross roads of top-notch universities, hospitals, research institutions and entrepreneurs.
Ocean & Defense Industries
Ocean & Defense Industries, where the states excels in manufacturing and developing technology for everything from submarines to skiffs. Newport is home to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. The University of Rhode Island boasts cutting edge marine research. The East Bay for recreational marine trades. Quonset supports Electric Boat's hull manufacturing. Not to mention all the entrepreneurial activity along the supply chain.
State Port Assets
