About MDOT ExpressPass:
- ExpressPass
is an oversize/overweight commercial vehicle permitting service offered
by Mississippi Department of Transportation to the public over the
internet.
- With
a valid ExpressPass account, an individual or company wishing to operate
commercial vehicles in Mississippi
that falls within certain size and weight limits can purchase and
instantly receive a oversize/overweight or
legal trip permit over the Internet via the ExpressPass system.
- These
current overall size and weight limits* for "daylight movement
only" ExpressPass permits and routes are:
Maximum Gross Weight: 180,000 pounds (subject to maximum axle
weights and minimum axle spacings in Table 1)
Maximum Height: 15 feet 6 inches
Maximum Width: 16 feet 0 inches
Maximum Length: 120 feet 0 inches
- General
travel restrictions for all permits issued for "daylight movement
only" (additional restrictions may apply and will be printed on the
permit):
No movement on Sunday except sealed containers
Loads greater than 12 feet 0 inches in width subject to daylight
movement only (30 minutes after sunrise until 30 minutes before sunset)
Loads less than or equal to 12 feet 0 inches in width subject to
daylight movement only (sunrise until sunset)
Red flags required on all corners of loads exceeding ten (10) feet
Restricted travel during inclement weather discretionary with
scale officer
No movement after noon on the day before, and entire day of a
legal holiday
Permit is valid for one day after travel end date if travel date
range spans a legal holiday
- 24-Hour
Movement Limits: These current overall size and weight limits* for
all 24-Hour Movement ExpressPass permits and routes are:
Maximum Gross Weight: 150,000 pounds (subject to maximum axle
weights and minimum axle spacings in Table 1)
Maximum Height: 13 feet 6 inches
Maximum Width: 12 feet 0 inches
Maximum Length: 99 feet 0 inches
Maximum Rear Overhang: 4 feet 0 inches
All permits that are eligible for 24-Hour Movement will be
automatically marked as "24-Hour Movement Authorized" upon
issuance.
- 24-Hour
Permit Travel Requirements (additional requirements may apply and will
be printed on the permit):
Loads between 10 feet 0 inches and 12 feet 0 inches in width, and
operating at night on 2-lane roadway requires a front escort
and flashing amber lights mounted on the rear of load.
Loads between 10 feet 0 inches and 12 feet 0 inches in width, and
operating at night on 4-lane roadway requires a rear escort
and flashing amber lights mounted on the rear of load.
Red flags required on all corners of loads exceeding ten (10) feet
during daylight movement.
Restricted travel during inclement weather discretionary with
scale officer
- Round Trip Permit Travel Requirements:
Load must not exceed legal height (13 feet 6 inches in height or less).
Load
must not exceed 14 feet 0 inches in width.
Round Trip Permit travel cannot exit and re-enter the State.
Overweight fees for a Round Trip Permit will be computed using twice the
distance of route selected.
Oversize
fees are $10 for a Round Trip Permit.
All permits
that are eligible for round trip movement will automatically display a
“Round Trip” option on the permit
application form.
- ExpressPass
Permits for Sealed Containers:
1.
Permit Type must be "Sealed
Container-Overweight";
2. Load Description must state
“SEALED CONTAINER”
3. Sealed Container
permit cannot exceed 95,000lb gross weight
4. Driver must have in his
possession:
a.
Bill of lading & Interchange
b.
Copy of ExpressPass Web Permit

are greater or lesser than the overall limits mentioned above. The lesser
of the value(s) of either the overall limits or individual route limits will
govern the routing and purchase of an ExpressPass permit. All ExpressPass
information, including routes and size and weight limits is subject to change
without notice.

How to register and use MDOT
ExpressPass:
Step 1:
- If you are an
individual company wishing to register to use ExpressPass, you will need
to download, sign and fax the ExpressPass
End-User Agreement (in Adobe
Acrobat PDF File format) to the MDOT Permit Division at (601) 359-5928.
- If you are a
third party/wire service wishing to register to use ExpressPass to
purchase permits for end-users, you will need to download, sign and fax
the ExpressPass

Step 2:
- If you do not
currently have a valid MDOT charge account, you will need to establish
one. The company receiving an oversize/overwight
permit will also need to have proof of insurance on file with the MDOT
Permit Division.
- If you have

establish an ExpressPass account with MDOT, please contact the MDOT

Step 3:
- Login
into your ExpressPass account with the account and password assigned.
Purchasing an ExpressPass permit is a simple process which takes
approximately 4 minutes, and involves the following procedure:

1) After you log
in, select the type of permit you wish to receive. If you are a third
party/wire service, you will first select the company that will receive the
permit.
Permit types currently available are Oversize, Overweight, Oversize and
Overweight, Mobile Home, and Legal Trip.

2) Enter the size
and weight information (where applicable) of the vehicle.
|
3) Select the
travel origin, destination and route (where applicable).
|
4) Enter the begin
date of the travel.
|
5) Enter vehicle
type, tag information, and load.
|
6) Fees to be
charged are automatically calculated. Please review your permit’s
price and check for any errors.
Press “Purchase” when ready to purchase the permit.
The process of purchasing a permit can be terminated at any time before the
permit is purchased.
You will not be billed for incompleted permits. Purchased
permits cannot be changed or refunded, however.

7) Print the permit
directly from your browser.

8) At this point
you are finished, and the printed permit is ready to use.
You will be billed at the end of the billing month for permits purchased
during this period.
You may review your account
information, change your password and review or reprint permits purchased
via the ExpressPass system for up to 30 days via ExpressPass Account
